France, Louis XVI period, second half of the 18th century
Chased and gilt bronze
The base of this pair of candlesticks is of fine and chiselled work, alternating three bouquets of flowers combining roses and daisies, each one, separated by three acanthus leaves and a frieze of traceries. The central shaft chased with gilt bronze, slightly oblong, alternates solid and wheat ears ornaments, of slightly different sizes, that bind at their stem.
The upper collar is adorned with a wheat ear frieze, and, at the end, with a type of bulb, decorated with a flower bud pattern. A circular frieze with pattern of guilloche surrounds a fronted plinth.
